Week In Review Edition #1

After knocking off Zion-Benton to get back in the NSC title chase, Lake Forest took a punch to the nose Friday night.  Despite shooting just 12-29 the Blue Devils were able to beat the Scouts 61-57 in double overtime.

Offense just wasn’t in the cards on the beginning of MLK weekend.  The normally sure-shooting Scouts shot just 16 for 43 from the field including just 6 for 15 from junior star Matt Vogrich.  Vogrich, who typically shoots lights out from beyond the arc, shot just 1 for 6 from downtown on this night.

On the other hand the Devils shot a very good 47 percent from the floor.  The problem for the visitors was that number is higher than their free throw percent for the evening.  Warren shot 41 percent from the stripe (12 for 29) and missed several clutch free throws from their star Brandon Paul.

As the saying goes, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, and the Scouts took advantage of numerous opportunities to shoot 28 for 35 from the foul line keeping them in the game.  Junior Matt Vogrich (21 points) led the scouts shooting 8 for 9 from the line.

Ironically it was his one missed free throw that eventually did them in.  The junior could only hit 1 of 2 clutch free throws to send the game into overtime with the 4th quarter clock waning away.  In the final overtime period it was senior Jason Warneke (1 point) who finally hit a free throw for the Devils to put the game out of reach.

For the Scouts, Kevin Berardini had 13 points and Andy Timson had 13 points to go with Vogrich’s 21.  For Warren Brandon Paul led the charge with 28 points, while David Duncan added 12 and James Poliquin helped with 9.
