Commandos march on By:Eric Quall Ryan Hare played sparingly due to foul trouble. The unsigned senior picked up his 3rd foul with 6:40 left in the 2nd quarter, and picked up his 4th foul just two minutes into the 3rd period. Luckily for the Commandos of Marshall, they didn’t need him. Hare did have 7 early points leading Marshall to a 26-17 lead after the 1st quarter, but those were the only points he would score all game. Hare would finish with 7 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Marshall was led by unsigned senior Davaris Davis (25 points). Also contributing to the 79-62 win was senior Ardarius Simmons (13 points 3 assists) and junior Darius Smith (10 points 5 rebounds 4 assists). North Lawndale kept it close and was trailing by 12 at halftime, but Marshall turned up the heat with their full court press after the break and the Phoenix were no match for the Commandos after that. Despite a 0-7 start from Marshall in the 3rd period North Lawndale couldn’t capitalize and soon saw themselves down 20. North Lawndale was led by junior Jonathon Mills who scored 18 points and grabbed 7 boards in a losing effort. Also for the Phoenix junior John Taylor scored 14 points and super-sophomore Jermaine Winfield had 16 points and 6 rebounds. After a recent loss to 2a contender Hales Franciscan, Marshall played like they had something to prove. On this night there was no stopping the Commandos’ onslaught and the Phoenix from North Lawndale had front row seats to witness just what Marshall can do when they are on their game.
