Moran will not be forgotten

Over the course of the last 3 high school basketball seasons it would be hard to, if not impossible, to utter the words “Jacobs Basketball” without the intent of mentioning Jacobs point guard John Moran. Moran has without a doubt played a large part in helping Jacobs High School assimilate into the role of a dominate high school basketball school in the Fox Valley area, not to mention throughout the state of Illinois.
The 6 foot sharp shooter has already signed with the University of Northern Iowa to play for head coach Ben Jacobsen, however, Moran hasn’t even begun to look past his final season as a Golden Eagle. “High School basketball is an awesome experience to play with all your close friends. We are looking to go downstate for the first time in Jacobs history this season,” Moran said. Jacobs Head Coach Jim Hinkle has been privileged to have not only one Moran on this year’s team, but two. Along with John, his Brother Tim is also a part of the starting five. “My brother and I have an extremely close relationship. We’ve been playing together forever and even off the court we are pretty much best friends,” related Moran.
Although Moran’s physical tools speak volumes, John Moran knows that behind every great player is a great coach. “(Jacobs Head Coach) Coach Hinkle has given me some great opportunities and I am thankful for all that he has done for me,” said the UNI recruit. Although Hinkle prepares Moran for his regular high school season, the Illinois Wolves and head coach Mike Mullins has in Moran’s eyes “done an amazing job” in helping John develop and hone his point guard skills. “I never played point guard until my junior year with the Illinois Wolves.”
Although his time has come, it’s without question; John Moran will be missed next year. His leadership, basketball, and all around personal abilities will not be forgotten. And hey, look on the bright side Jacobs fans, next year’s roster will still include a Moran, just not John.
